Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee announces the passing of Elder James Kwissiwa

ANISHINABEK NATION HEAD OFFICE (April 9, 2018)— The Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee sends his most heartfelt condolences to the family of Elder James Kwissiwa, his community of Pic Mobert First Nation, and all others who mourn his passing.

“I was so sorry to hear of James’ passing into the Spirit World. My deepest condolences to James’ family and community. James was a longtime friend – I had the opportunity to work with him when we were young and maintained our friendship ever since,” says Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee.

Elder Kwissiwa formerly served as Chief in the early 90’s where he led his community for over three terms. Following his tenure as Chief, he served as a Councillor on Chief and Council for over 20 years. He also held the position as an Elder and Leader in his community for several years.

“James will be fondly remembered by his community and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him for his kindness, ready-smile, and lead-by-example style of leadership. He was a very active Chief when he served and his commitment to his community continued long after his tenure as Chief as evidenced by his longstanding presence on Chief and Council as a Councillor,” adds Grand Council Chief Madahbee.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 at 1:30PM. Wake and visitation availabilities are this evening and Tuesday evening.
