INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
In accomplishing all of this, our key initiatives are: TREATY RESEARCH Treaty research supports the research and development of specific claims within our communities; this includes identifying specific claims, conducting historical research, providing legal analysis as well providing education to our communities on the specific claims process IPPERWASH PROJECT We have an Ipperwash Project Coordinator who acts as the main liaison with the Chiefs of Ontario and the Ontario government in the collaborative development of research, policy change and other initiatives that respond directly to the many recommendation of the Ipperwash Inquiry
Development on recommendations focus primarily on Treaty Implementation, Land Rights and Interests, First Nation Jurisdiction and Capacity Building All of this collaborative work is done through one main cross provincial initiative called the Ipperwash Inquiry Priorities and Action Committee (IIPAC) INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS We have our Intergovernmental Relations coordinator who acts as the main liaison with the Ontario Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and well with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
The coordinator plans and oversees the bilateral meetings we have with each respective government; these meetings involve top level political representatives such as our Grand Council Chief and Chiefs with provincial and federal ministers; as well senior technical personnel within UOI and the two governments The main purpose of these bilateral relationships is to ensure we get our key issues/priorities discussed and resolved at every level possible Photos Contacts For additional information about Department Overview or any information regarding the content of this page, please contact:
