Mapping a Brighter FutureThe Union of Ontario Indians has developed an online mapping application that enables Anishinabek communities to access, print, view, and query geographic data. The Anishinabek Community Interface (ACI) provides user-friendly access to current resource data for traditional territories in order to provide decision-makers, educators, staff and governance access to online spatially referenced information. The ACI employs leading edge Internet-based GIS and mapping technology that enables the Anishinabek Nation to begin managing and utilizing geographic information at its fullest. The Mapping a Brighter Future project accesses shared map services that promote the use and access of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The ACI has tools that include user-friendly map navigation, simple queries, print tools and is built to enable the use of CGDI data and services compatible with open standards. The Anishinabek Nation recognized the benefits of a centrally-based UOI Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Anishinabek Nation. Geospatial technology will benefit many ongoing resource planning and management issues affecting programs, staff and Anishinabek First Nations. Equipped with geospatial tools and technology, the Anishinabek Nation can begin Mapping a Brighter Future. Follow this link to the Anishinabek Community Interface...
